How manufacturer contractor tiers compare
Shingle manufacturers run their own contractor programs. The three compared here, GAF's and two other manufacturers', each have more than one level, and each ranks its levels only within its own program. None of the three publishes an equivalence with another manufacturer's levels, so a top level with one brand says nothing about another brand's system.
What changes as a contractor moves up is mainly which warranty it can register on your roof. In all three programs, the manufacturer's own pages name only contractors above the entry level as able to offer the warranties that include workmanship coverage. That is the part worth comparing, and you can read the warranty document before you sign rather than take a badge on trust.
Each of the three publishes a contractor search on its own website, and GAF points homeowners to its own to verify whether a contractor is Master Elite.
